1998 - 2002

Understanding the business and the operational detail

Working in IT project management for a FTSE 100 packaging company in my early career I gained professional experience understanding the importance of detail and what the business is about in order to deliver successful outcomes. Understanding the scope of the project, different management expectations and what is the desired outcome are the keys to success. I spent my time listening to the stakeholders at all levels, this taught me to identify risks and issues which effect progress and delivery.

Focus on successful solutions on time and within budget

Having joined Higher Education administration the first project was the implementation of a student records system. Surrounded by a small and excellent team we achieved many sector leading services and were one of the first institutions to run successful on line registration for students, now an established necessity. The implementation at the University of Exeter has stood the test of time. As Head of Projects I managed all process reviews, major IT implementations and supported a major construction project, the Student Forum Building.

In 2009 I made the decision to set up an independent consultancy, I had always struggled to find project managers that could hit the ground running and so I decided to give it a go and haven't looked back. Taking advantage of my extensive knowledge and experience of HE processes and objectives. Many of my projects have been extended or I have been invited back to do more work or I have carried on working with individuals. See the Projects page for some case studies.

Marketing & Website Design

Using my Marketing Degree I enjoy supporting smaller businesses and individuals with their branding and website development within a realistic budget. I use existing website tools to design or modernise and improve an online presence. Linking with social media accounts provides an effective marketing approach, easily managed by a small business.

2012 - Current

Student Attendance Management
I'm one of the founder Directors of Collective Intelligence Systems. Our student attendance management system, Connect is being implemented in The University of Northampton, University of Birmingham and York St John University through our strategic partner Collabco using the myday product, to provide an attendance solution with integration into timetabling and student records. The attendance capture is technology agnostic and can be used whether sessions are delivered on line, on campus or with a blended approach.
